Fuel-Saving Features from Audi
With fuel prices projected to remain high through Memorial Day, everyone has become more conscious of their vehicle’s fuel economy. Even in times when gas prices are more reasonable, it’s important to choose a vehicle with greater efficiency to reduce your environmental impact and keep your cost of transportation down. Audi has engineered the models in its lineup to offer outstanding fuel-saving features. From hybrid powertrains to aerodynamic designs, Audi keeps the environment—and your wallet—in mind.
Variable Valve Timing
Audi’s variable valve timing technology is used in many engine options to increase performance as well as fuel economy and efficiency. It works by altering the timing of the valves by shifting the phase angle of the camshaft. If that sounds like a bunch of jargon you don’t really care about, just know that VVT equals better efficiency. This technology is used throughout the Audi lineup on most models.
Turbo Powertrains
Much like variable valve timing can improve efficiency, so can turbochargers. The application of turbochargers may have started with the desire for faster vehicles, but it has an extra benefit. By using a turbocharger, Audi can use a smaller engine with less horsepower without creating a vehicle that feels sluggish. Small turbos provide the power you need to merge onto highways or pass another car but don’t drink fuel when you’re just driving normally. A great example is the A5 equipped with a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine. With 261 horsepower, you might expect this car to be expensive at the pump but the premium coupe still achieves 31 mpg on the highway.*
Electrified Performance
In 2019, Audi introduced the e-tron® brand with its first fully-electric model. That lineup has now expanded to more than six models designed for a variety of drivers. Want a performance sedan? There's an all-electric Audi for that. Want a great commuter car? There's an electric Audi for that. Want a capable SUV? There's an electric Audi for that. Audi has truly crafted an electric lineup that can please almost any driver. It doesn't get much more fuel efficient than that.
